[quote]I think the term "wifey" or "the wife" no matter what debate went with it is insulting to Keith and to Nicole.

You know what?.....Next time i am talking to Keith....
I am going to say.. HOW'S THE WIFEY KEITH!?
and we will see if he gets insulted by her being called that....
If he does... then I will apologize... but as I said, I talk to him the same way as I would talk to anyone else in this world...

Teena...you just made our point.

The way you just said it, in the context you said it...is an affectonate term of endearment.

But, when one says 'wifey' in the context it was used below...then it's insulting.  Especially since we don't know what the 'international commitments' are yet!

A break from what?  He hasn't even done two dozen concerts on this tour.  This is a large part of the frustration of being a Keith fan.  His tour schedule always seems so haphazard.  First, he never gives us enough advance notice on ticket sales to plan, then he sells tickets and changes his mind.  Sounds like he decided to follow wifey on one of her gigs.  His fans are not going to be happy about that.  Not one bit.  "International committments" can't be a concert tour, and if it were something that was actually a Keith-related thing I'm sure they'd say what it is.  Yep, he's doing a wifey thing and causing the fans a lot of inconvenience as they try to return tickets to all the different venues.

You know what is too bad about this cancellation....now everyone has seen him all over the world.  How much BETTER coverage can you get?!?  Maybe Germany's ticket sales would have gone up after this show.

I can't get over the way people are focusing on what one person wrote.  None of us know how the poster meant "wifey" and many are assuming it was an insult.  I think it's unfair to go on and on about this. We've all heard the various opinions...it really is unfair to the original poster to attack like that, not knowing her intent.  And if she was upset because she thinks Keith cancelled shows to spend time with his wife, that's her opinion and her feelings.

I would hope that a professional person like Keith would NOT cancel a tour for a personal reason. That's the kind of thing that should be thought through BEFORE making the commitment.  I know I can't cancel my job obligations for my husband just because I've thought twice about it. Once I'm scheduled for the job, that's it, unless a major emergency arises. Those don't come up 3 months in advance.

The real issue is that his tour is cancelled and there are some very upset fans, who've spent alot of money some of which will not be refunded. So...why was the tour cancelled?  Was it poor ticket sales...was it so he can record an album...is it so he can extend his tour in North America and finish his tour in the UK/Europe...is it so he can perform at the Arias...is it so he can spend time with Nicole and be home for his birthday? None of us know...the only thing for sure is he isn't touring and it looks bad for his reliability.

Because the statement of "international commitments" is vague, fans are given the opportunity to speculate...unless they decide to clarify the reasons and at least make the reasons known.

The problem is that the damage is done. His reputation has taken a beating because over the last couple of years, he has postponed & cancelled many shows.  This last cancellation is badly timed and badly handled PR wise.  They should be doing damage control ... so we shall see if there is any response to the angst of the fans or not.

I'm not aiming my criticism on Keith...he pays a PR team and well, no doubt, to handle the promotion of his career and how it is handled.  His management team should have thought through this BEFORE they set a tour up.  There should have been no commitment to a tour in the UK/Europe until they KNEW that Keith could honor that.  And the cancellation was handled poorly.  Most of this is business 101 and it never fails to amaze me how some of the business aspects of his career are handled.  Don't get me started!

What an interesting thread.

Ultimately, I think it doesn't matter why the tour was cancelled. The fact is that is was. The reason will obviously be a good reason to Keith's management even if it is not a good reason to European fans.

I had my concert tickets but had not booked and flights yet as I consider booking flights 6 months in advance too big a risk. Most likely I will not be working where I am working now come October so I had to be careful. When I found out I was very disappointed, almost more because of the friends I would not get to meet up with again than because of the shows. Quite quickly I set my sights on the next tour here, whenever that may be.

For me, it's about the music. When I started listening to Keith I didn't think he'd ever play in Europe so I feel grateful already that I got to see him 5 times so far. I much prefer to look at things this way than to carry on feeling sad about the cancellation. The music remains fantastic whether he tours here or not so a huge fan I shall remain.

Don't really want to jump into the whole discussion on Nicole other than to say that I don't feel she needs to declare her love in public if she doesn't want to. Agreed with pretty much everything Renee said on this.
