Revealed: Why Nic sobbed at the aisle
Patty Huntington and Andrew Hornery
June 27, 2006
AS THE curtain came down on Sydney's celebrity wedding of the year, it has emerged that it was not just pre-wedding nerves that caused Nicole Kidman's tears en route to her nuptials.
Kidman's publicist, Wendy Day, yesterday revealed that Kidman had been shocked by the public reaction to the wedding.
Day - who would not divulge any honeymoon details, suggesting the media should "just give her a break" - said Kidman had to be taken to an anteroom on arrival at the Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel in Manly, in order to regain her composure and have her make-up reapplied before walking down the aisle.
"She said, 'Wendy, oh my God, I never expected anything like that'," Day told the Herald.
"She wasn't just touched, she was gobsmacked, she was overwhelmed. She couldn't believe the amount of support and warmth and … Australian-ness that was there for her".
The newlyweds spent their first night at the exclusive Park Hyatt Hotel, The Rocks, and were joined by both sides of the family yesterday for lunch.
The couple's private jet was seen at Sydney Airport being prepared for what was expected to be an imminent honeymoon departure last night.
Some paparazzi had already tried to second-guess their destination, with one jetting off to Tahiti while others reckoned on Fiji's Wakaya Club, where Kidman has a favourite $5950-a-night villa.
More details of Sunday's wedding emerged yesterday. Guests say the chapel was festooned with white lilies and thousands of white candles for the ceremony, which featured soprano Anita Watson singing the Puccini aria Chi Il Bel Sogno di Doretta from La Rondine along with Beethoven's Ode to Joy from Symphony No.9. The marquee next to the chapel was decorated with crystal chandeliers and bowls of red roses.

yeah I guess that really was something to behold... seeing the streets lined with people... all wishing her well....
I think Kens photos that he posted , really shows the feeling and the views to be seen on the big day... I guess she did just expect paparazi outside the fence.. but not not the long line up along the street upwards to the church

I think she was completely overwhelmed and not expecting it--Australia treated her and Keith both like royalty--she and Keith are such sensitive and sweet people--to come back to their homeland and get that kind of reception from the crowd and the Australian media must have really warmed both their hearts, and to have both their families and close friends here for the wedding was icing on the cake--last week was glorious, and I loved it for them.
