Keith in 'Wave to the World"???? « on: 06/27/06 14:01 » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is a new vid up at youtube.com starring our one and only Keith among other famous country singers like Dolly Parton, vince gill, charlie daniels. bj thomas, chely wright to name a few. It is totally awesome, not the best quality but was supposedly made for the 2000 Paralympics in Sydney Australia. If anyone has a clearer copy I would be willing to trade something for it or pay for it even. Therefore they're were ever only 1000 copies made and distributed of this song. They didn't have time then to promote the song properly. This venture took quite a bit of money, and at the end zero was donated to the SPOC. Games were held: 18 - 29 October 2000. Per the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games - Post Games Report "Wave to the World" Project In early 1998, SPOC was approached by an Australian music company, "Cool Change International", with a proposal to produce and distribute internationally a compilation CD and contribute a large percentage of the profits to the Paralympic Games. An agreement was finalised in September 1999 to produce and sell worldwide a double music CD and contribute a large percentage of the profits to the Games. Cool Change believed that this would help raise the profile of the Paralympic Movement through the association of some of the world's best-known recording artists and celebrities. The strategies developed included: • seek a sponsor or investor, willing to underwrite the costs involved (AUD$2.5 million) in production and distribution of the CD, in return for receiving exclusive rights • negotiate production of the product with Sony Records • solicit donations of existing and new tracks from some of the world's best recording artists • enlist the support of well-known celebrities to act as spokespersons • negotiate distribution of the product worldwide • establish an independent trustee to distribute profits (after recoupment of the investment) according to an agreed percentage distribution. The results included: • an underwritten investment for less than half of the budgeted amount was made by a private businessman • although "Cool Change" succeeded in engaging the support of artists, celebrities and their managements, Sony Records would not sign an agreement to produce the CD and Universal Records was subsequently approached • two new songs (one Country music song "Wave to the World" and a popular song "Spirit of Life" were written. The recording of the two songs in the "All-Star Cast" style resulted in extra time being needed to complete the CDs and a huge blow-out of costs • final production wasn't completed until late September 2000, after which sleeves were printed and a sample run of CDs manufactured • as a result, the project was too late to leverage any promotion, even off the Paralympic Games themselves.
