and will post this on every KU board I can find!!  I know it seems like bragging because I do own this now - but I can't keep my joy inside!

I bought the new CD from iTunes in Canada today and in a word it is brilliant. Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant ... GR was always my favourite CD; this just passed it by a mile.

It is far more country than GR or Be Here to me; it is stunningly written and produced; it is also grass-roots simple perfection; it is sad; it is happy; it is unique - it is EVERYTHING I love in Keith's music – H*LL in anyone’s music.

It will be a CD that stands him apart in ANY genre. The clips don't even come CLOSE to doing the CD justice so do not judge the CD based on what you are hearing (it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better). The bonus song “Slow Turning” is like the best old fashioned jam-session I have ever heard and I would bet every penny I own Jerry is singing with Keith; it is pure Ranch sound (actually a couple songs are that way and I LOVE IT).

It is like every CD Keith has made to-date has been compiled and blended to perfection. I rode around with a BSG on my face listening to this today and not because the songs are so happy – but rather the music is so incredible.

My only complaint ... in driving all around town listening to this in my car (the way I always listen to new music) I used up a tank of gas Mr Urban!

Keith you are the master hands down  and I will be proud beyond words to give this to every human being I know. I will be first in line to by the actual CD on November 7th to read all the liner note information too.

Brilliant, Brilliant … BRILLIANT!!

Me either (other) Karen   .. it is BLARING in my house ... I loved Be Here .. but not this much .. and always had such a soft spot in my heart for GR .. but this .... it is without a doubt his best work ever!!  It will put him on a world stage second to none without doubt in my mind.

I'm so happy for you girls--good for you.  I was at the Atlanta album party and heard 5 songs other than OIAL and I could tell this album was going to be a blockbuster in that he's obviously reaching new heights in his musical career with this one--it's a whole other level.  Thanks to your comments above, my own feeling about this album is justified.

Interesting view point?
I look forward to hearing reviews from others as to if they feel the album is MORE COUNTRY??................
I feel only one song is country on it... the rest being rock, pop and ballads..
I felt that be here was too country for me... and was hoping keith would make his next album more rock orientated, and I feel he has done that... with driving guitar solos... far more than on any other album..

I'd be very interested if anyone that has got a hold of the itunes songs, if they would write up a brief little review and their thoughts on each song they hear?
and if they feel it's country?.. or rock?.. or pop?? or hear other influences?
and what song they like the best and why?

The reason i am asking this... is because I do feel the album is going to blow every other artist away!.... I predict it will be the top selling album of the year!... all over the world!

We here all know that keith has a gift, to use words and his music to touch people in different ways, with his music.. So I'd be interested to see how people feel about certains songs, and why they feel moved by them....

and I want to know what your favourite song is?

Tee, apparently, i-tunes mistakenly put these snippets, downloads out earlier than they were supposed to and they have been stopped.  You can't download them any more--not even the snippets.  Supposedly,  Capitol found out about it and put a stop to it and were very unhappy with i-tunes.

So those lucky enough to get the downloads early will be the only ones to have it until November 7th.

I had no problem with it--figured Capitol had its reasons.  Anyhow, just a heads up to let everyone know if they're confused as to why they can't get it to come up anymore on i-tunes early.

Shine is VERY Elton John, very very Elton. I love the ENTIRE album, minus OIAL. Raise the Barn starts out so much like "Jealous Again" from the Black Crowes I had to look at my music player to make sure I was still listening to Keith.
Used to the Pain is an amazing piece of work, I mean the entire album is what should have followed GR and NOT Be Here.
Whoever said this surpasses GR, hit the nail right on the head.

Otherwise, hello to everyone!

Now, this is just my take on the songs. Mind you, I keep listening to the CD and the songs "change" if you get what I mean. You hear things the first time and then you hear it again and it sounds different. I'm also not very good at critiquing stuff.  I note there are a few 5+ minute songs on this CD. Yay!! More Keith!! LOL

Once in a Lifetime:  you know this one

Faster Car:  awesome song!! Love how it "kicks" in after “figaro, figaro”!!  I think this song is more "pop" than country...it's awesome

Used to the Pain:  again...another "pop" sounding song. very toe-tapping! LOL  Great vocals in the chorus...i get goosebumps.

Won't Let you Down:  a country sounding song to me, right now...not a fave of mine

Tu Compania:  Fantastic song!! another toe-tapping...dancing country song!  The girl in the background is cool…especially at the end when her and another girl (I think it’s another girl) are talking about Keith and then Kenny Chesney...but they are speaking Spanish, so I don't have a clue what they are saying...you just hear their names.  And no, Keith does not sing any part of the song in Spanish. This is definitely one of my faves!

Stupid Boy:  Awesome Song!! Sung with a lot of feeling. I know Keith didn't write this song...but once you start listening to the words...you sort of get the impression that he's singing it about Nicole and her previous relationship (hope that's allowed to be said). But that's just my impression. When you hear the words...you'll understand.  My favourite song!

I Can't Stop Loving You - very country sounding I think. Slow.  I like it. Great guitar work for the ending. I don’t really remember the original (apparently done by Phil Collins) but Keith makes it his own.

Shine:  not sure about this one...I don't think I've heard it enough to really judge it.  Country song.

Everybody:  Love this song!!  Country Ballad for sure.

God Made Woman:  I didn’t like the beginning of this song at first.  But it kicks in after the initial “church sounding” beginning. Full blown country then!

I Told You So:  Great song. Very celtic/country sounding. I like the song. The Chorus is awesome! More goosebumps! LOL

Got it Right this Time – Awesome song!  Slow song. Very heartfelt singing. No guessing who this song is about! Another fave!

Raise the Barn – another fun song!! Very country sounding. Keith & Ronnie Dunn sing well together!

Slow Turning (Bonus Track) – Awesome dancing song for sure!! When I hear this song, my feet start tapping!!  If he does this song at concerts, everyone’s going to be on their feet dancing!!  It’s country sounding but it’s not, if you know what I mean

Hope this is what you were looking for!  Again..I'm not good a critiquing. It's either a great song, or it's not!  That's my criteria.  But if it gets my feet tapping, it's a great song!!

Wendy

Raise the barn.... isn't on the album being released in Australia...
Well it wasn't on the listed songs I was given....

I wonder if it will be on the UK/Europe version?

Cate,
I just got an email from another Australian complaining about the very same thing....
it seems australians can't pre-order it from that site!..
and I am looking into this further!
But................ can I say this cate...
The album is being released here in Australia before anywhere else....
so you maybe better off not pre-ordering it anyway... because you will have to wait for the release date there...

I will get back to everyone about this deal with itunes and the fanclub, when I get more background and information on it all...

I am so sorry Cate , that you went through all of that....

MAJOR SPOILERS IN THIS POST!!!!!

OK I will do my best here...warning I tend to ramble so this may be quite long!!!
I have to agree with Teena here, as far as the "country" sound. In my opinion Raise the Barn & Tu Compañia are the only songs out of the 14-counting OIAL and bonus track Slow Turnin' that sound country to me.

Ok before I start, I have always been one of the monkeys who hear one of Keith's albums and says "He can't get better than this!!!!" Well he proved me WRONG again, just like he has with every new album he has put out! I can not possibly but into words how amazingly fantastic I feel about this album! It makes me smile listening to it, you can just hear, feel, and see how in love and happy he is! I am one of those people who always hoped and prayed that he would found his soul mate, and listening to this album it seems as though he has!!!!!

1) OIAL-No explanation necessary…

2) Shine - starts out slow, speeds up after about 15 secs. with great drums and bass. The song is about the female having a long self esteem and going through rough and difficult times. The male taking away her problems and making everything better and helping her "find a way to shine" There are many metaphors in this song. I would consider this a pop sounding song. This song has a fantastic steady beat that makes me move my body to the music and bob my head LOL!

3) I Told You So - I LOVE the musical arrangement to this one, as far as the MUSIC itself I’d say it’s my favorite, but this is not my favorite song. Very upbeat, almost an Arabian feel at the beginning, which sounds weird/strange right now if you haven’t heard the song but it will make scence later. The song is about the man wanting his girl to be happy. They have troubles in their relationship, she leaves and then comes back to him. He says he’s not surprised that she came back saying “ oh can’t you see that for worse or for better, we’re better together. Come back home,. Don’t say that you’re sorry and I won’t say I told ya so” AUSSOME ROCKIN’ guitar solo at the end!!!! Not Country in my opinion

4) I Can’t Stop Lovin’ You - Slow, heartfelt song. It’s a cover song so some may have already hear it, I had not.  Very sweet, vulnerable song. “Can’t stop loving you, (repeated 3X) though I try. Song is about a man grieving and feeling devastated  because his girl is leaving on a train. Though he doesn’t tell her how he feels and he regrets not telling her. Rockin’ long/extended guitar solo at the end!!!! Not country in my opinion

5) Won’t Let You Down - interesting intro, almost creepy, mysterious…slow verses, upbeat chorus ”I’ll catch you when you fall, cause I’m the one who loves you, you’ll never wonder if I care, I’ll always be there, standing never looses ground, I’m your best friend now and I won’t let you down”

6) Faster Car - starts off silly, Keith or someone else being goofy. Sound has muffled affect, strong bass/driving beat. 50 secs. Muffled sound goes away. Very happy song!!! “ I need a faster car now A rocketship straight to the moon, I need a faster way to show you how much I need you baby” I wouldn’t consider this country, but it is the most country sounding track out of the 5 previous songs so far. Chorus repeats a bunch of times, at least 4 times.

7) Stupid Boy - One of my favorites, Seems as though everyone has been raving about this song.  Some posters say this is the best song Keith has ever done, now I wouldn’t go that far but it is a fantastic song. Slower song, really raw. Keith’s voice just SOARS on this! Fantastic!!! Chorus got stuck in my head immediately. Very catchy even though it is slower. Very heartfelt and honest song, Keith portrays it so well. Song is about a man cutting a girl down, and crushing her dreams, killing her self-esteem and not letting her “fly”. ROCKIN’ Guitar solo once again!!! The end of the song reminds me of “You’ll Think of Me” as far as an “angry part” Keith added this to the song, this is not on Sarah Buxton’s version. I can not wait to see this live, I have a feeling it will blow the angry part of YTOM out of the water!!!
As Keith rocks out he says “ she let me, she let me, god let her know I am sorry, sorry, sorry baby, ya I’m down on my knees, she’s never coming back to me! (Keith is literally screaming/yelling here, I would say) EXTREMELY INTENSE AND POWERFUL!!! SOOOOOOOO MUCH PASSION!!!! Not country

8. Used to the Pain - upbeat, driving beat. “Every step I take, I get a little less afraid of givin in to love, believe me when I say, it gets better everyday, once you get used to the pain” great guitar solo parts here! The song is about sympathizing with the girl, and understanding that everyone has a past, and reassuring her that he will open up his heart. Music slows down and gets quiet for a while keith sings, fantastic, then he goes back to rockin out!!! To be perfectly honest I don’t understand the meaning of this song. I can’t tell if it is suppose to be a sad song or happy song, the music is dark sounding but the lyrics seemed filled with hope to me. If anyone could interpret the song to be that would be great! short banjo or mandolin part at the end with keith making lalalala humming, gibberish sounds. Not country

9) Raise the Barn (Ronnie Dunn) - VERY COUNTRY!!! IMPOSSIBLE TO SIT STILL!!! TOE TAPPING FUN, FUN, FUN SONG!!! Head bobbing song for sure!!! “ we’ll be square dancing’ toe tapin’ we’ll be kickin’ up our heels to the cotton eyed joe! (sorry I don’t even know if that’s how to spell it!) music laughter going raise the rafter, do a little hand hold, hay rollin, strolling with your honey by your side, Dixie cups and paper plates, Halleluiah we’re gonna raise the barn tonight!!!” Keith sings 1st verse, they sing the chorus together, Keith says “sing it Ronnie” and Ronnie sings 2nd verse. They say everybody make some noise, and there is a crowd cheering! NANANANA at the end…

10) God Made Woman - I think my most favorite on the record! I think this is probably the sweetest songs I have ever heard! I cried the first time I heard it. Just another example of Keith’s utmost respect for woman gotta love it. Young children’s church choir starts the song, singing when God Made Woman” then Keith comes in with a rockin guitar part, slows down again  “It never ceases to blow my mind, it does it to me every time, standin here lookin at you, it makes me wonder what he was up to, was he think bout me when he thought about you When God made woman, He musta been proud, ya he must have been cryin or laughin out lout. It must have felt like the first time, getting kissed by the sun when God made woman. Chorus is upbeat, verses slower. Guitar solos!!! He WAILS on that guitar baby!!!!! This is such a happy song, Keith even laughs while he sings it! It is such a sweet, and sincere song!!! NANANANA ends it… Side note: a couple of the song writers of this song also wrote Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus, Take the Wheel”)

11) Tu Compañia - This TOTALLy reminds me of a Ranch song!!! VERY, VERY, VERY country!!! The way Keith sings it very much reminds me of “Some Days ya gotta dance” When listening to the lyrics, they are so sweet and romantic, Keith could have made this a “Making Memories of Us” type song, a sappy, romantic ballad. This song is the complete opposite! It is another one of my favorites, for some reason I honestly laugh out loud whenever I listen to this! It just cracks me up for some reason! The song has lots of descrïptive details as well, so you can’t help but get quite the mental picture! Like someone said, no Spanish here…This song shows how much he adores his wife and is head over heels in love!!!!
“Morning papers scattered all around you, coffee brewin on that stove, and the pleasure of just knowin’ that your mine.”
“Well I love the way you look, I love the way you feel and the way you roll your eyes at the kisses that I steal, I love the way you stare when your starin’ right at me…I just love your company”
Sarah Buxton is speaking Spanish quietly in the background.
“love the way you smell, I love your pretty eyes and the lies they NEVER tell” and yes there is some references to “Keith Urban & Kenny Chesney “ here. Sarah is speaking in Spanish and laughing as she says it! I am DYING to know what the English translation is to this. The Spanish and Keith singing are at the same time, so it is hard to make out the Spanish words. CUTE, CUTE, CUTE, song!!! I don’t think the man could possible be any happier right now!!!

12) “Everybody” - I would sort of consider this a ballad but there is also a soft drum too, talks about someone being lonely. “ but everybody needs somebody, sometimes (repeated) The lyrics and message of the song reminds me of “You’re Not Alone Tonight” as far as being encouraging and filled with hope. He is telling his girl he’s sorry for not being there for her, but he is here now, and she can give him her problems and open her heart to him. Similar to “Bring it on Home” by Little Big Town as far as the message of the song too.

13) Got it Right This Time - Another one of my favorites, slow song. Keith said he did this one in one take, he sounds distant from the microphone and I love this effect. This song made me cry as well because I have wanted Keith to find his soul mate and best friend for so long!!! It has a steady drum beat to it, Keith is playing an organ sounding instrument. To me, the most beautiful song on this record. Talks about how she believes in him, he’s a better man because she came into his life. He couldn’t find where he belonged until she took his hand. “We can make this work out baby, I know it’s true, I can’t picture myself with no one but you, and I think I got it right this time” “All my life I’ve been lookin for someone who believes in love the way I do. Though I made my share of big mistakes, girl I promise you..repeat chorus. “Always knew you were out there waiting for me, to find my way to your heart. “Ya after all the crazy days, I’ve made it through” *** A FABULOUS WAY TO END***

EXCLUSIVE ITUNES TRACK
“Slow Turnin’ - Reminds me of a John Melloncamp song, very upbeat!!! Pretty country. Head bobbing song, there is a lot of hand clapping going on in the track! A great song to dance to!!!

OK I am almost done!!! So I REALLY believe and hope that Keith will reach amazing new heights with this record!!! MAJOR crossover pop/rock material here!!! I think Australians especially will love this record, because Keith says he wanted to do a more rock album for his Aussie fans!!!
But, Keith without a doubt stays true to his country fans as well! There is something for EVERYONE on this record!!! There are some songs that I have no clue where to categorize them, country pop, rock etc..which is fantastic because Keith loves to make music that can’t be pinioned holed in a certain genre! With this record he has without doubt created a new genre of music called “Keith Urban” this is unlike ANYTHING I have ever heard! So different for Keith! Each song is SO DIFFERENT it is just INCREDIBLE!!!

I know I would not change a single thing about the album, I just love how Keith radiates pure happiness and bliss in this record! Although  I didn’t notice any “pain” songs! They all seemed happy to me! If they started out as pain they ended “happy”

I know many may disagree, but I LOOOOOVE how happy this album is!!! I have always been a happy, enthusiastic person, and I like that none of the songs are depressing.

I can't wait for EVERYONE to hear this MASTERPIECE!!!!

Kensy....
thank you so much.... for taking the time , and relating the way you feel and see each song.....

You are so correct, about the fact that Keith's songs can be interpreted differently by different people...
and I think this is why I just love your review!.. because you told it the way you see it and feel it....

A couple of quick comments...

Everybody... is my favourite, I love the haunting sound when it begins
it seems to just pull me in... ( I love the message in this song).. the beat, I just tend to loose myself in it... I close my eyes and just melt into it and feel the emotion of it all...

Faster car---I like the driving beat of this... and this song just has a feel of the beatles to me... maybe the harmonies, and the guitar riffs
I also think this is a song, that no matter what type of music your into... it will appeal...

God made woman-- noone says it like keith can..
he is just so able to place words , so that they reach into your heart
love the guitar work in this... the entire song is put together so well...
its so musically tight.
A brilliant piece from start to end..

got it right this time--Another song that stirs so much emotion in me..
and make me loose myself in it... I think it has a feel of the blues, but can't quite place my finger on it.. it unique.. a real blend of different musical styles... I love that!

Can't stop loving you--an oldie but a goodie..a classic!
again, the emotion he places into the singing of this song really reaches me... He is such an amazing talent the way he emphisizes certain words and phrases them.. and again the guitar in this just blows me away!.. I guess in a way its like raining on sunday the way it builds up into a passion!

I told you so...
I hope this is the next single released... I would have liked this to be the first single released... I think the thing I enjoy the most about thi album is the way that keith lets the music tell the stories ...
the partnership between the lyrics and the music is so fasinating to me.. the way he able to use the music to enhance the message he in the song... like this pounding , sound in this song... it reflects the feeling and lyrics.. HE IS SO AMAZING!.. SUCH A TRUE ARTIST!

raise the barn....
THE REAL COUNTRY SONG ON THIS ALBUM...
It paints such a great picture in the mind of real southern country..
very American feel, When listening to this, I can picture being in a barn doing a square dance...but it has Keiths signature sound, rock/country (sort of has the ranch album feel to it)

SHINE...
such a beautiful inspirational song, I like the way he used strings in this..I listen to this and don't feel its country?...its more like an anthem to me... love the way it picks up the tempo at the end..
like I said before.. the way he marries the music and lyrics.. so they complete the story and make you feel the messages he is sending
BLOODY BRILLIANT THE WAY HE DOES THAT!

SLOW TURNING
reminds me of old rock and roll songs the way they just make you want to do the twist!...with a touch of John melloncamp, i agree its gonna make concert goers just wanna dance and move!

STUPID BOY..
I know everyone loves this song... and says its going to be a huge hit...I may make people mad with my comment on this one...
to me this is a nice song..and thats it..
It doesn't stir emotion in me like many of the other songs..
To me its like Once in a lifetime... a nice song with nice lyrics.
I am not saying i don't like it... If this was released in Australia , i don't see it moving up the charts, like some of the other songs on the album..
Although in saying that... I can see it doing well in the country charts in the USA.

Tu Compania
When I listen to this... to me it sounds like a blend of gospel and country... one minute I feel like I am in a church wanting to sing hallaluah!.. then it turns to toe tapping country
Again a master at blending styles and feels to songs.

I won't let you down
good for the pop charts... I think this is a song that will grow on me the more I listen to it....

Used to the Pain
I think I could end up loving this song...
it's funny how sometimes you listen to keiths songs and listen to the lyrics , aand then you find yourself reading something else into them at a later date...
and the song takes on a different meaning and feeling....and you end up loving it more than anything else....

In final...
Its a masterpiece... I can't find any real sadness in this album , like all his others... from the 1991 to the  ranch, to Be here... It does appear to me to be an album about love and being dedicated... where as his other albums he had songs that touched on some very serious matters,
Like infidelity,
addiction,
being left
to me its a feel good album

I do believe it will be the top selling album in the world
Everyone will have this album in their collection.. it has such world wide appeal. GRAMMY WINNING
I believe it shows how talented he truly is... able to blend music styles,
able to marry the lyrics with the music to make you feel the messages.
Some songs you can't help but move the body too... and show cases his amazing guitar talents

I think one world sums it up....
BRILLANCE!

It was driving me nuts trying to recall who had recorded this song..
CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU.... and read back in a post
it was Phill Collins... I liked it a lot when he released the song...
But I love it a hell of a lot more hearing keith's version..

Phill collins was also such a brilliant talented artist, with a style of his own. I thought he was absoloutly brillant, and loved his music..

and now realizing this.... I can hear a lot of phill collins style in this album....like with the song "  i told you so"...really has a strong feel of Phill Collins.

This has got me wondering if he has a very strong connection for keith... with the fact he sang another day in paradise , at live 8

Phil Collins Lyrics

Can't Stop Loving You
(Nicholls)

So you're leaving in the morning on the early train
I could say everything's alright
And I could pretend and say goodbye
Got your ticket
Got your suitcase
Got your leaving smile
I could say that's the way it goes
And I could pretend and you won't know
That I was lying

Cause I can't stop loving you
No I can't stop loving you
No I won't stop loving you
Why should I?

We took a taxi to the station, not a word was said
And I saw you walk across the road
For maybe the last time I don't know
Feeling humble
I heard a rumble
On the railway track
And when I hear that whistle blow
I'll walk away and you won't know
That I'll be crying

Cause I can't stop loving you
No I can't stop loving you
No I won't stop loving you
Why should I?

Even try ……I'll always be here by your side
Why, why, why ……I never wanted to say goodbye
Why even try ….I'm always here if you change, change your mind

So you 're leaving in the morning on the early train
I could say everything's alright
And I could pretend and say goodbye
But that would be lying

Cause I can't stop loving you
No I can't stop loving you
No I won't stop loving you
Why should I even try?

you can hear a small bit of the song on a blog

http://mpteresa.blogspot.com/2004/08/cant-stop-loving-you.html
Keith really nailed it with his version...so much more emotional than phil

I was just reading a review on amazon , about phil collins version of Can't stop loving you... and found the comments in this rather witty..

10) Can't Stop Loving You - Well, FINALLY, another decent song. Again, this sounds like something off a Genesis album, late period. Keyboards like Tony, and guitar technique right out of Rutherford's technique. The drums are good. The vocals are good. Overall, if the fact that this is NOT an original song, but a cover, doesn't ruin this in the end for me, the fact is that I feel a bitter taste in my mouth now, because I heard this first in a TOYOTA tv commercial. So, even though Phil is singing here about LOVE, I can't get the image out of my ears of him singing about his CAR or SUV here. What's next? Phil singing a remake of "Against All Odds" for the next episode of Fear Factor?

Same here! "Faster car" reminds me of the Beatles at first listening.

But I'm addicted to "I can't stop loving you".
